There are a lot of options for finishing the exterior walls of the house. Some serve for a long time and do not require increased attention, others need to be periodically repaired. Whatever goals you pursue – renovating an old building or finishing a new one from scratch for many years – the best solution would be to use vinyl siding panels. This way, you can shorten repair times and save money, while still getting excellent results. Let’s figure it out.
Siding on closer inspection
Siding is PVC panels produced by extrusion. The material is initially saturated with the necessary components, and therefore, a large number of advantages appear, namely:
- Easy and fast installation. There is no need to hire highly qualified workers. Installation can be done by anyone using the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Low specific weight of panels. This allows even the oldest structure to be clad without burdening the foundation.
- Low price compared to other finishing materials.
- Not susceptible to moisture. This means that neither dampness nor fungus will penetrate into the house, and over time, the planks will not rot.
- Resistance to weather conditions. Neither rain, nor snow, nor the scorching sun will spoil the appearance of the panels.
- Cracks, bubbles, delamination do not appear.
- Ease of maintenance. The panels are washed several times a year with a washcloth and soapy water.
Panel characteristics
As mentioned earlier, siding is a polyvinyl chloride panel.
Their length can be different, depending on the requirements of the buyer. Sizes in length are in the range from 0.2 to 0.6 meters, width – from 0.1 to 0.3 meters, thickness from 0.96 to 1.5 millimeters.
The shape of the profile is in the form of a “Christmas tree” or “ship’s beam”. “Christmas tree” is more popular, besides, it is tougher, and “ship’s beam” looks more beautiful, shadows of greater depth are created on the wall, the additional volume appears.
The number of boards in one panel is different – from one to four pieces. You can see this difference by examining the product labeling. When using one board, put the number 5, two – the letter B.
Each strip in its lower part is equipped with a latch – lock, while the upper part is equipped with a perforated edge. It is also used to fasten the plank to the wall with nails or screws through the holes or to another panel.
Siding can be of various textures, sometimes the color is applied to the board, wood of various species, or just plain.
